Christian Books Make Great Gifts

I get asked for book recommendations all year long but those requests start flooding in more the closer we get to Christmas.  Books make a great gift so friends and family like to pick my brain for good suggestions.  I thought I would pass some of those suggestions on to you over the next two days.  Today I’ll highlight some nonfiction and fiction titles that would make perfect presents for men you might have on your shopping list.

Nonfiction Christian Books
FightFight by Craig Groeschel

A quick read by one of today’s most popular and dynamic pastors.   Goreschel will help men discover who they really are – created in God’s image and with a warrior’s heart.  Find biblical truth that will help defeat negative foes that can make a man week and fight them with prayer, faith, and the Word of God.  Find freedom to fight for your marriage, your family, and your own heart. (Zondervan)

Jesus ReligionJesus > Religion by Jefferson Bethke

Expanding on his widely popular YouTube video, “Why I Hate Religion But Love Jesus,” Bethke challenges you to take a new look at Jesus.  With an honest and refreshing approach, he’ll share his own story of moving from a works-based religion to a grace-filled, authentic faith.  Perfect for a young adult or someone who might be in search of a transparent dialogue on Jesus.   (Thomas Nelson)

All InAll In by Mark Batterson

“Jesus didn’t die to make us safe. He died to make us dangerous.”  A statement many us believe but don’t live out in our safe little worlds.  God desires us to be all in for him and that should empower our decisions, how we spend our time, and how we love others.  Batterson will show how making one decision can change your entire life.  It’s a powerful read… one of my favorites for the year!  (Zondervan)

Love Dare for ParentsLove Dare for Parents by Alex and Stephen Kendrick

Take the same biblical principles presented in the best-selling Love Dare and apply them to your family.  This book will challenge parents to understand, practice, and communicate life-changing Christ-like love to your children.  Includes a free parenting assessment tool that is available on line.  Great gift to give young parents!  (B&H Publishing)

Jesus Calling GrayJesus Calling Large Deluxe in Gray by Sarah Young

No!  This best selling devotional is not only for women!  More and more men are reading it.  Because of that fact, I worked with the publisher to create a color and cover that men would like.  Pick up this LifeWay exclusive edition of Jesus Calling in a beautiful charcol gray leather cover.  It’s super fancy!  (Thomas Nelson)

To Live is ChristTo Live is Christ to Die is Gain by Matt Chandler with Jared C Wilson

What does Christian maturity look like?  Take a guided tour through Philippians with Chandler as he shows how to develop a personal faith that encourages you to die to self and to live through, for, with, and in Jesus.   This book lends itself very well to a small group book.  How fun would it be for you to give your group members your next book study as a gift?!   (David C Cook)

 Christian Fiction Books
I SaulI, Saul by Jerry B. Jenkins

Told from the point of view of the disciple Luke, the apostle Paul and “Augie,” a modern day scholar, I, Saul is a fast-paced story of intrigue and mystery. Readers will be reminded of Indiana Jones and the DaVinci Code as they become absorbed in this page-turner by a master storyteller. Along the way, they will learn of the fictionalized but plausible story of the life of Saul who relentlessly persecuted Christ’s followers prior to his conversion when he became known as Paul.  (Worthy Publishing)

HarbingerThe Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn

This novel released last year but remains at the top of the sales charts here at LifeWay.  The Harbinger is taking the nation by storm with prophesies and signs from 9/11 and beyond, that parallel Isaiah 9. Omens from Isaiah 9 show God’s anger with the people of Israel; and now, we as a nation, defy God again. How does this correlate with our future? Don’t miss this extraordinary fiction thriller!  (Frontline)

Dead LawyersDead Lawyers Tell No Tales by Randy Singer

Landon Reed is an ex-quarterback convicted of organizing a points-shaving scheme. During his time in prison, he found forgiveness and faith and earned his law degree. Now he longs for an opportunity to prove his loyalty and worth.

Harry McNaughton is one of the founding partners of McNaughton & Clay-and the only lawyer willing to take a chance employing an ex-con-turned-lawyer. Though Landon initially questions Harry’s ethics and methods, it’s clear the crusty old lawyer has one of the most brilliant legal minds Landon has ever encountered. The two dive into preparing a defense for one of the highest-profile murder trials Virginia Beach has seen in decades when Harry is gunned down in what appears to be a random mugging. Then two more lawyers are killed when the firm’s private jet crashes. Authorities suspect someone has a vendetta against McNaughton & Clay, leaving Landon and the remaining partner as the final targets.  (Tyndale)

I hope those give you some good ideas as you tackle your Christmas shopping!  Tomorrow I’ll share some tips on gifts for women.  Oh, and remember… LifeWay Christian Stores has gift cards in case you’re running out of ideas or time!
